Delhi MLAs take oath, stock markets tank, Russian consulate explosion & more

The first session of Delhi’s eighth legislative assembly kicked off today. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and newly-elected MLAs took their oath, administered by Protem Speaker Arvinder Singh Lovely. BJP MLA Vijender Gupta was elected as the Speaker of the House. In Telangana, rescue operations are still underway at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel collapse site. Eight workers remain trapped for over two days. Telangana Minister Jupally Krishna Rao has said survival chances are slim. The markets took a hit today — BSE Sensex plunged 900 points, while Nifty50 slipped below 22,550. Market pressure stemmed from foreign investor sell-offs, slowing US GDP, rising inflation concerns, and Trump’s tariff policies. An explosion took place at the Russian consulate in the French city of Marseille today. Russia has called it a ‘terrorist attack’ and is demanding a full investigation. The incident comes on the third anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war.
