India has reacted strongly to recent remarks from Bangladesh foreign minister Khalilur Rahman following the BJP’s victory in West Bengal elections. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the comments must be viewed in the context of the repatriation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from India. The MEA revealed that over 2,860 nationality verification cases are still pending with Bangladesh, with several delayed for more than five years. New Delhi has urged Dhaka to speed up the verification process to ensure smooth deportation and repatriation procedures. The remarks come amid growing diplomatic exchanges between India and Bangladesh over alleged “pushback” concerns and border-related issues.
