The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) net sold USD 8.944 billion in the spot currency market in April, according to the central bank's monthly bulletin released on Monday.
This is the second consecutive month of selling by the central bank amid pressure on the Indian rupee.
In March, the RBI had sold USD 9.758 billion in the spot currency market.
On a gross basis, the central bank purchased USD 16.225 billion in April, and sold USD 25.169 billion, as per the bulletin.
The Indian rupee (INR) remained under pressure in April and May amid protracted geopolitical tensions and continued foreign portfolio outflows. However, the currency recovered in June 2026, owing to capital flow measures, easing geopolitical tensions and falling crude oil prices, according to the bulletin.
During 2026-27 so far (up to June 19), INR appreciated by 0.2 per cent over end-March 2026.

US President Donald Trump unveiled a newly refurbished Air Force One jet, previously owned by Qatar, which is set to start commissioning flights before it begins ferrying the president early next month.

The US and Iran have agreed on a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within 60 days following two days of talks at the Swiss resort of Burgenstock, according to a joint statement issued by mediators Pakistan and Qatar on Monday.
The talks, held on Sunday and Monday, took place under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the US and Iran on Thursday to advance negotiations on regional security and other contentious issues.

"Operation Tiger is complete now," announced Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday, as all six rebel Lok Sabha members from the Shiv Sena (UBT) officially crossed over to the ruling Shiv Sena, formalising another split in the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction.
The rebels joined the Shiv Sena at an event in the presence of Shinde and other senior party leaders, five days after skipping a crucial parliamentary party meeting of the Shiv Sena (UBT) in New Delhi. The meeting was attended by only three Lok Sabha MPs of the Opposition party.
The Lok Sabha MPs of the Shiv Sena (UBT) who crossed over are: Sanjay Deshmukh (Yavatmal), Sanjay Jadhav (Parbhani), Sanjay Dina Patil (Mumbai North East), Nagesh Patil-Ashtikar (Hingoli), Omprakash Rajenimbalkar (Dharashiv) and Bhausaheb Wakchaure (Shirdi).

For the first time since the TMC was founded by Mamata Banerjee in 1998, a rebel faction on Monday replaced her as the party chairperson and elected senior MLA Arup Roy to the post, while unveiling a parallel leadership structure.
At a special session here, the faction led by Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee constituted a new national leadership hierarchy, directly challenging the authority of Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, the party's national general secretary.
The rebellion within the TMC crossed a political Rubicon as dissident leaders moved beyond challenging the leadership and sought to remake the organisation itself, projecting their camp as the legitimate continuation of the party.
Held at a hotel here, the 31-minute special session brought together rebel MLAs, former councillors and party functionaries from across the state.
