Hit by hurricane

Greg Norman was among those hit by the hurricane in Florida last week. Norman was on an island 90 km north of Miami, when he was quoted as saying, "We, like everybody else, had a lot of tree damage. It was just like a wall of air that started hitting the west side of our building. Everything was rattling, including the storm shutters."

Winning streak

Daniel Chopra does not need to look at the Money List any more this season. Chopra, who was fourth in the historic Deutsche Bank Championship and where Vijay Singh overtook Tiger Woods as No. 1 ranked player, has now enough money to ensure a card for 2005.

Earnings of about $500,000-530,000 were expected to ensure a card, and Chopra is now close to $ 600,000. The fourth place finish is Chopra's fourth top 10 finish and his best this year, which is also his maiden year on the US PGA Tour. In 2004, Chopra came through the Qualifying School where he finished sixth.

Amateur championship

The US Women's Amateur champion Jane Park, NCAA champion Sarah Huarte and Paula Creamer have been chosen to play in the Women's World Amateur Team Championship, to be played between October 20 and 23 in Puerto Rico.

All the three players were on the Curtis Cup team. Morgan Pressel is the first alternate, followed by Women's Amateur runners-up Amanda McCurdy.

Senior PGA

The Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma, will hold the 2006 Senior PGA Championships. But it will still be one year too early for Jeff Sluman to participate. The winner of the 1988 PGA at Oak Tree will turn 49 that year and only players who are 50 years and above are eligible for the Champions Tour.

Taiwan Open

The Taiwan Open, celebrating its 40th anniversary, has inked an agreement to be part of the thriving Asian Tour this season. The $300,000 event will be staged at North Bay Golf and Country Club in Taipei from September 23 to 26, a week after the Mercuries Masters, to be also staged in Taiwan's capital.
