Allergan India Ltd will manage both the businesses of Allergan Inc and its recently spun off optical medical device business, Advanced Medical Optics Inc (AMO).

Allergan Inc spun off its optical medical device business into an independent, listed company to ensure that it maintains its focus as an eye-care pharmaceutical entity.

"In the future, the businesses of AMO will not have to compete for financial resources with the high growth, high gross margin pharmaceutical operations of Allergan," a press statement from Allergan Inc said.

The statement said AMO will not be limited by the strategic constraints of Allergan as a company focused on speciality pharmaceuticals. It will not have the freedom to forge strategic tie-ups and expand its core business.

In India, Allergan Inc is represented by Allergan India which is a joint venture between the parent company and Nicholas Piramal.

Products of both Allergan Inc and AMO will be marketed by the Indian company.
