Godrej Consumer net up 39%, sales surge 89%

FMCG firm Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) today said it has posted 40 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 119 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2010.
    
For the same quarter last fiscal, GCPL's net profit was Rs 85 crore.
    
In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange, GCPL stated that the company's consolidated net sales during the three-month period under review increased 89 per cent at Rs 980 crore, compared to Rs 518 crore in the same quarter last year.
    
The Board of Directors also declared an interim dividend of Rs 1 per share.
    
"The figures for the current quarter are not comparable with those of corresponding quarter of the previous year because of the acquisitions made since then," the filing said.
    
In case of the company's domestic business that includes GCPL and Godrej Household Products Ltd (GHPL), net sales increased by 48 per cent to Rs 645 crore and net profit grew 39 per cent to Rs 105 crore.
    
The international business reported sales of Rs 337 crore, a growth of 296 per cent during the quarter.
    
"The macro economic environment is improving. We continue to explore opportunities to strengthen our presence and competitive position in the home care, personal wash and hair care space," GCPL Chairman Adi Godrej said.
    
GCPL is a leading FMCG company in India with a large portfolio of household and personal care brands including Good knight, Cinthol, Godrej No 1, Expert, Hit, Jet, Fairglow, Ezee, Protekt and Snuggy.

The shares of Godrej Consumer Products were trading 2.60 per cent down at Rs 401.05 at day's close on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
