To carry out pilot project in busy areas.
Parking in Ahmedabad is all set to get a major reprieve, if an Israeli company’s plans to develop ‘on line on-road parking’ on the busy streets of the city fructifies. Asia Everest Ltd in consortium with other Israeli firms is planning to sign an MoU of Rs 250 crore with the state government for controlling traffic by using GPRS system.
A person can figure out where to park the vehicle or can trace it by looking at the monitoring system that will be installed at the entrance of parking places.
Talking to Business Standard, chairman of the Asia Everest Muliashia said the company will first set up a pilot project in some busy area falling under the corporation. “The system of on road online parking is very popular in Europe and Israel. Besides controlling traffic, this system will also add to the revenues of the corporation,” he said.
The project envisages setting up meters at various points across the city. “A person can be charged for the number of hours he has parked his vehicle,” he said. The company has held discussions with the corporation and other urban department officials for implementing this project in a phase-wise manner.
The system can also help storing data and hence if someone fails to pay for parking or is fined, his name would get registered and can get traced the next time he parks his vehicle, Muliashia added.
This would be the Israeli firm’s first project in the country. With a lot of companies planning to roll out small cars in near future, there is lurking fear that the problems of parking will rise. “This system will solve parking problems to an extent,” he said.
