LIC hopes to increase premium income from Assam by 7%

In 2012-13 fiscal, the country's largest insurer received an income of Rs 4,500 crore from the north eastern state

Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) today said it expected its income from premiums in Assam to rise by around seven per cent to Rs 4,800 crore during this financial year.

"Our first quarter's premium income from Assam is about Rs 1,200 crore. For the entire 2013-14 financial year, it will be four times of this," LIC Senior Divisional Manager A Bhuyan told reporters here.

In 2012-13 fiscal, the country's largest insurer received an income of Rs 4,500 crore from the north eastern state, he added.

During last financial year, LIC's overall income from the country stood at Rs 3,26,341.88 crore, of which Rs 2,08,000 crore were contributed by insurance premiums.

The company is at present celebrating its 57th anniversary across the country.
