Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), the flagship company of Coal India Ltd (CIL), has posted 9.46 per cent growth in coal production in 2008-09 outpacing overall seven per cent growth recorded by its parent company, CIL.
But despite this impressive growth, MCL has fallen short of achieving its revised target of 104 million tonne fixed by the coal ministry due to various unavoidable factors.
According to MCL sources, the coal production of the company in 2008-09 was at 96.335 million tonne as against 88 MT in the previous fiscal.
Similarly the coal offtake was 90.34 MT against the target of 104 MT. In over burden removal MCL registered a negative growth. It achieved 52.84 mullion cubic meter of over burden removal in last fiscal against the target of 70 million cubic meter.
