There is no change in the position taken by state-run NTPC in the litigation over gas supply from RIL's D-6 block of the KG basin that the supplier is in breach of contract, Minister of State for Power Jairam Ramesh said today.
"As far as NTPC is concerned, RIL is in breach of contract with it. NTPC has repeatedly said this. There is no dilution of the NTPC position at all," Jairam Ramesh told reporters.
Under the contract Reliance Industries (RIL) had offered to sell gas to NTPC at $2.34 per million British thermal unit (mmBtu).
NTPC had taken RIL to court seeking supply of 12 million cubic metres per day after the two firms could not resolve the matter themselves.
An Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) had fixed the price of gas to be supplied from RIL's D-6 block of the KG basin at $4.2 per mmBtu, saying that this decision was without any prejudice to the court cases.
