The State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) cleared the proposal of Bahrain based investor Midal Cables to set up an aluminium conductor unit in the state at a cost of Rs 358 crore.

The facility with a production capacity of 60,000 tonne per annum (tpa) would come up at the aluminium park at Angul developed jointly by National Aluminium Company (Nalco) and state owned agency for land acquisition and industrial infrastructure development, Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (Idco).

"The project by Midal Cables will create employment opportunities for 350 people. We are encouraging micro and small enterprises (MSEs) to set up downstream units at the park", said a government official.

The aluminium park has so far drawn 11 proposals for establishment of downstream units.

The aluminium park at Angul is being developed by a special purpose vehicle (SPV) called Angul Aluminium Park Private Ltd (AAPPL), with shareholding of 50.50 per cent and 49.50 per cent between Idco and Nalco respectively. The park will be developed over 450 acres of land and 160 acres will be taken up for development in the first phase.

A wide variety of industries using aluminium conductors, extrusions, castings, foils, powder and paste can be set up at the Angul Aluminium Park. Nalco has already agreed to to supply 50,000 tonne per annum (tpa) of molten metal to the aluminium park at Angul for promoting downstream industries.

Apart from Midal Cables, Metal Powder Company Ltd, a leading manufacturer of non-ferrous metal powders, based in Madurai (Tamil Nadu) is keen to set up an aluminium powder manufacturing unit also at the aluminium park at Angul at an investment of Rs 330.90 crore.

Apart from the aluminium conductor unit, the SLSWCA gave its nod to a couple of pellet projects.

Kashvi International Pvt Ltd has proposed to set up 0.6 million tonne per annum (mtpa) pellet plant at Jhumpura in Keonjhar district. The project would cost Rs 152.17 crore and create employment for 188 people.

City-based Indo Pellets Pvt Ltd is keen to establish six mtpa iron ore beneficiation plant 2.4 mtpa pellet unit at Sana Hundula in Keonjhar district at a combined investment of Rs 926.77 crore.

A coal washery plant with a capacity of two mtpa proposed by Prakritik Enterprises near Talcher also got the nod of the SLSWCA. The washery plant would cost Rs 104 crore and generate employment for around 200 persons.

The Single Window Authority approved the change in location for a cement grinding unit by Emami Cement from Begunia (Khurda) to Mania near Tangi in Cuttack district. The 1.5 mtpa cement unit is slated to cost Rs 401 crore with an employment potential for 258 people.

Similarly, the SLSWCA okayed the change in site of its 24,000 tpa aluminium conductor unit by Gupta Power Infrastructure from Khurda to the aluminium park at Angul. Besides the conductor unit, Gupta Power is also setting up 14,200 tpa cabling unit. The company has sought 30 acres land for the unit.
