Spring Air India, part of US-based bed products manufacturer Spring Air Bedding Co Limited, is planning set up two manufacturing plants at Kolkata and Mumbai over the next two years.
Currently, it has two manufacturing plants at Noida and Bangalore with a production capacity of 500 mattresses per day. The two new plants will also have a similar production capacity to meet the increasing demand from Indian consumers, Ashok Sharma, chief executive officer, Spring Air India, told mediapersons here on Friday.
The Indian mattress market is now pegged at Rs 5,000 crore, of which coir mattresses constitute 60 per cent. “With the increasing awareness and increasing income, people are now opting for more comfortable mattresses and ready to pay a few extra thousands. The market for spring mattresses is growing at 25-30 per cent year-on-year, ,” he said.
