The third largest two-wheeler maker in the country, TVS Motor, has set itself the target of capturing 12 per cent of the market share with its Jupiter in the 110-cc scooter segment.

At present, the scooter has a market share of 10 per cent.

Aniruddha Haldar, vice-president, marketing, TVS Motor Company, said Jupiter was the fastest scooter to reach the one-million unit sales mark — in 30 months since its launch in 2014. It is the second largest scooter brand in the country, after Honda Activa. The company is planning to launch a new scooter.

TVS had initially launched ZX, the top-end variant of Jupiter. Jupiter sales have increased close to 50,000 a month from 10,000 a month during its initial days. “We have a great expectation from this product,” said Haldar. The other two scooter brands for TVS are Scooty and Wego.

The company claims that Jupiter has got a market share of around 10 per cent in the segment and plans to increase that to 12 per cent by the year end. The sales will be driven through new marketing and sales initiatives, backed by a new special edition and one more new product.

Recently, the company announced that it has made an arrangement with e-commerce major Snapdeal to sell its two-wheelers online. Last year Amitabh Bachchan was roped in as brand ambassador for TVS Jupiter.

TVS has around 20 per cent market share in the scooter segment, and half of it comes from Jupiter. The company’s overall share in the two-wheeler market is around 14 per cent and the company set a target to take it to 18 per cent market share in the next years’ time.

The company is expecting to increase its market share from seven per cent currently to 10 per cent in the motorcycles by the year-end. In the premium segment it plans to increase its market share from 17 per cent to 22 per cent.

TVS registered a 17.9 per cent growth year-on-year, increasing from 175,533 units in May 2015 to 206,886 units in May 2016.
