Lenders, led by SBI, will soon begin a review of the Tata and Adani groups’ exposure to the power sector.
They are worried about the fallout after the Supreme Court (SC) verdict on compensatory rates for imported coal.
Senior bank executives said the situation was worrisome even before the SC verdict, because power units of these firms using Indonesian coal make losses.
“The SC verdict might add to the strain on balance sheets. We will begin an analysis and get clarity in two or three days, before deciding on the next course of action,” said the head of a Mumbai-based with public sector bank.
