India reports 14,830 new COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours

India reported 14,830 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, informed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday.

A total of 36 deaths were reported with 18,159 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

India's active caseload currently stands at 147,512. Its daily positivity rate is at 3.5 per cent.

Mizoram reports 197 new COVID-19 cases

Mizoram reported 197 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, 10 more than the previous day, pushing the tally to 2,31,911, an official said.

The fresh cases were reported from 10 districts with Aizawl registering the highest at 97, followed by Lunglei (39) and Saitual (14), he said.

The single-day positivity rate dipped to 25.29 per cent from 57.14 per cent the previous day, he said.

Arrest warrant issued against Meghalaya BJP leader accused of running 'brothel'

A non-bailable warrant has been issued for the arrest of BJP's Meghalaya vice-president Bernard N Marak, who is accused of operating a "brothel" at his farmhouse in Tura, police said. Marak is on the run after six minors were rescued and 73 people arrested from his farmhouse Rimpu Bagan' during a raid on Saturday, they said.

 

"A non-bailable warrant of arrest has been issued against Bernard N Marak alias Rimpu. It is a standing warrant issued by the court of chief judicial magistrate in Tura," West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh said.

Over 14 mn children in US infected with Covid-19

More than 14 million children in the US have tested positive for Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic, according to the latest report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children's Hospital Association.

 

More than 92,000 child Covid-19 cases were reported for the week ending July 21, the second consecutive weekly increase of reported cases, according to the report.

Lakhimpur Kheri case: HC verdict on Ashish Mishra's bail plea on Tuesday

The Allahabad High Court will deliver its verdict on Tuesday on the bail plea of Ashish Mishra alias Monu, the son of Union Minister of State for Home minister Ajay Mishra, in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. A bench of Justice Krishna Pahal had reserved its order on July 15 after completing the hearing.

 

The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court had granted bail to Ashish on February 10, 2022. But, later the Supreme Court cancelled the bail and directed the HC to decide his bail plea after affording adequate opportunity to the victim side.

Top Congress leaders met here Monday to evolve a strategy a day before Sonia Gandhi's questioning by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case, even as the Delhi Police denied the party permission to protest at the Raj Ghat and imposed section 144 there.

 

The Congress president is scheduled to appear before the ED on Tuesday for the second round of questioning in the money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper. Congress leaders have demonstrated against Gandhi's questioning by the Central agency and they have decided to stage a peaceful protest once again on Tuesday.
