The Mahagujarat Janta Party (MJP) on Wednesday formally announced its merger with the newly formed Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) of ex-CM Keshbhai Patel.
Patel had last week resigned from BJP, an organization he served for five decades. He announced his own party GPP on Monday, to take on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
"I have stepped down as president of the MJP and resigned as primary member of the party," said MJP founder and president Gordhan Zadafia.
He announced that the MJP would merge with the GPP before the assembly elections in December this year. According to Zadafia, over 2.5 lakh primary members of MJP would also join GPP.
The form minister in the Narendra Modi government, also announced that after the merger, the new GPP would contest election from all the 182 assembly seats.
