Citing grid security and imbalance, Delhi Transco has asked NTPC not to cut power supply to Delhi. NTPC had on Wednesday issued notices for non-payment to Reliance Infrastructure-promoted BSES Rajdhani Power (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power (BYPL) over non-payment of dues totalling Rs 1,300 crore, failing which it would curtail the power supply of 2,700 Mw to these discoms.

In its letter dated May 6, Delhi Transco said, “We are bringing to the kind attention of NTPC that as per the Regulation 11(2) of the CERC (Regulation of Power Supply) Regulations, 2010, the Southern Load Dispatch Centre may suspend the implementation of regulation of power supply if it results in imminent danger to grid security.”

The letter, reviewed by Business Standard, said as the load of Delhi would remain constant but supply would be limited, it would lead to imbalance in the grid. The same would also effect the power supply of consumers of other discoms in Delhi as well.

When contacted, an NTPC spokesperson declined to comment saying the matter would be seen in light of the deadline issued by the company for payment of dues. The company supplies 65 per cent of BRPL’s power requirement.

The total pending dues of BYPL is Rs 403 crore and that of BRPL is Rs 892 crore.

The power allocated to these discoms from various NTPC power stations is 2027 Mw (1,349 Mw and 678 Mw to BRPL and BYPL, respectively) and the average monthly energy bill is Rs 260 crore and Rs 130 crore, respectively.
