Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy has directed officials to ensure that the labour gets paid Rs 100 per day under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, as against Rs 80 earlier. Following this, chief secretary P Ramakanth Reddy will hold a video conference with district collectors tomorrow.

The chief minister also wanted the collectors to ensure that NREGS funds were spent before monsoon sets in. He asked them to examine the possibility of doubling up the programmes under the scheme.

Reddy also directed the chief secretary to discuss the implementation of Recognition of Forest Rights Act 2006 to benefit tribals.

The high court in its May 1 order permitted authorities to issue Certificates of Title to eligible forest dwelling Scheduled Tribes and other traditional forest dwellers.

The officials would also discuss the drinking water supply position this summer, an official release said here on Thursday.
