The Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs (COWE) would adopt Medak and Ranga Reddy districts in Andhra Pradesh to develop tourism and ICT literacy in the two districts respectively.

COWE submitted a proposal to the state tourism ministry and IT & C ministry in this regard last week, said Shylaja Reddy, president, COWE, at a seminar conducted by the confederation on 'Women in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Support Services'. The seminar was organised under the aegis of the state department of IT&C at Gitex India 2006 here on Thursday.

COWE will prepare a digital map for Medak district based on the data collected by various women's organisations and also develop a rural tourism circuit involving women from all the villages or towns in the district.

It also plans to establish an ICT Interaction Centre in Chevella where women will be invited and familarised with the technology through various interactive programmes.

Formed in November 2004, COWE is a non-profit society and works towards promoting participation and development of women in various social and economic sectors by exposing them to various business and developmental opportunities.
