Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday agreed for restructuring the government hospitals in the state in tune with the requirements of the Aarogyasri scheme, which provides cashless treatment to the poor.

The health department prepared a blueprint for revamping the policies, support services, infrastructure and restructuring the staff of government hospitals.

The government proposed to increase the participation of government hospitals in the Aarogyasri programme from the present 9 per cent to 30 per cent in a year by creating better infrastructure and staff.

Officials said all government hospitals would be networked to streamline the medicines procurement and their supply in government hospitals. The staff pattern, bed strength and other facilities would also be rationalised.

The government also decided to seek 395 more PG seats for the state and the chief minister would pursue the matter with Government of India during his visit to New Delhi. The state government would also establish a superspecialty hospital at Mangalagiri in Guntur district in 100 acres of government land.

Health Minister D Nagender, Aarogyasri minister P Satyanarayana, health principal secretaries J Satyanarayana and LV Subramanyam and others attended the meeting.
