The state government has decided to increase the subsidy component of seeds to 50 per cent of their price to encourage farmers to go for more acreage in a bid to overcome the shortage of pulses which saw steep rise in their prices in recent times.

Currently, the government is offering 33 per cent subsidy on pulses seeds to farmers.

"Yield levels in pulses have not gone up because no hybrids were introduced in pulses in the country so far. Until the day hybrids in pulses enter the farm lands, we have no other way except increasing the acreage under pulses to meet the requirement," he told the reporters.
