Run up for Assembly seat office bearers of Gujarat unit of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) began today. The elections for the posts will be conducted like any other elections, said Youth Congress members.
According to the members, more than 500 polling booths have been set up in over 182 Assembly constituencies in Gujarat even as returning officers have been appointed from among the Youth Congress members to conduct the polls.
In all, around 3,700 nominations for office-bearers have been fixed after screening of applications and allotment of symbols to them.
Meanwhile, the elections have already witnessed reports of violence and booth capturing activities. "Reports of scuffles have been pouring in from some polling booths but they can be discounted given the magnitude of the event," said Mihir Shah, member of IYC.
Reportedly, Youth Congress workers have been involved in booth capturing incidents in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot.
