Kalawati not to contest polls

In a U-turn, Kalawati Bandurkar, the poor widow introduced to the nation by Rahul Gandhi as the face of have-nots, says she will not contest the Assembly polls in Maharashtra after she was fielded as a candidate to fight the Congress. Kalawati, 48, was named to contest the October 13 polls from Wani in Yavatmal district as a Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti nominee as part of the opposition campaign.
