A Rashtrapati Bhawan release said the two discussed national and international developments and the forthcoming G-8 Summit in Japan next week which the prime minister is scheduled to attend.
In response, the CPI(M) reiterated that Singh's presence at the G-8 summit would be taken as an indication of the government's intention to go ahead with the nuclear deal and that would be factored in the meeting of the Left parties on July 4 that would take a decision on continuing support to the coalition.
"We have been told that the prime minister is stubborn that he will go to Japan only if he is allowed to go forward with the deal. So the prime minister going to Japan will be an indicator that he is going forward on the deal," said party General Secretary Prakash Karat said.
