Is Mulayam Singh Yadav preparing the ground to break away from the United Front?
The alleged victimisation of Samajawadi Party workers by the Mayawati government, and the perceived inaction of Prime Minister I K Gujral is said to have irked Yadav no end. Party sources said he was not concerned so much about the United Front government or its fate than his political fortunes in Uttar Pradesh.
Yadav yesterday used the occasion of a marriage ceremony in Pratapgarh to sound a warning to the United Front.

My party had joined hands with the United Front only with the aim of defeating communal forces. But now we will no more compromise on our principles, Yadav said.
A senior Samajwadi Party leader said he had scant respect for senior leaders of the Janata Dal, and had little patience with Gujrals urbane, sophisticated outlook.
