Opposition parties today slammed the government for not accepting their demand for a discussion and voting on the issue of price rise and said they were completely united on their stand.
BJP said the government fears its allies will desert it on the issue.
"They fear their allies will desert them on the issue of price rise and hence the government is not accepting the opposition demand for a discussion on price rise under rules 167 and 168 with a provision for voting," BJP's Deputy Leader for Rajya Sabha S S Ahluwalia said.
CPI's D Raja said the government response is "inadequate" on the issue and charged it of "completely failing" in controlling food inflation.
RJD leader Rajniti Prasad said the Opposition is fully united on the issue of price rise.
Ahluwalia said the proceedings of Parliament will not be allowed till the government accepts the adjournment motion mooted by the Opposition. "The government says it has a majority in Lok Sabha. If they have the numbers why do they not agree to the demand for adjournment motion".
He said that the two third majority of Rajya Sabha is in favour of the discussion under rules 167 and 168 and it is only Congress, which is opposing it.
He said there is no coordination in the government over tackling price rise and alleged that "everybody in the government is engaged in only loot".
"The government gives the alibi of economic recession, drought and flood for food inflation but the fact is otherwise. This is an artificial price rise. They are making money through commodity exchange," he said.
