PAU releases new variety of cotton

| The new variety, PAU 626, take a short time to mature and give a high yield, PAU Director (Research) BS Dhillon said in a release. |
| He said the variety will play an important role in revival of cotton cultivation in Punjab. |
| Elaborating on the new variety, Dhillon said:"Plants of this hybrid have pigmentation on stem and branches. Leaves are green, medium sized and okra in shape with fine lobes. It produces medium sized bolls with fluffy opening." |
| He added that the variety had shown good resistance to diseases during trials. |
| "It recorded an average yield of 9.8 quintal per acre, with ginning outturn at 40 per cent and fibre length 20.1 mm," he said. |
