Despite opposition from several state governments, the Planning Commission will support the expansion of open access system in power distribution, B K Chaturvedi, member of the Planning Commission has stated.
Speaking at a conference on 'Open Access: Vision for competitive power market in India' organised by Assocham here today, Chaturvedi said a high level committee on 'open access' headed by him is in the process of finalising its recommendations to allow three per cent open access of power from power generating firms.
He also said the committee may also recommend that the three per cent ceiling could be expanded to ensure that power distributors are able to capture 10 per cent market through open access system.
If approved, the power generators, irrespective of their locations will be allowed to sell three per cent of their total capacities to consumers of their choice.
