As late as November 1994 when the NSE made its debut, the floor-trading system was in force on all the Indian stock exchanges. To be participating in the scrimmage of a floor-trading required genetic advantages such as bulk, a loud voice and an ability to make eye-contact. This breed of floor-trader has now become extinct as the open outcry and negotiated trades have given way to screen-based order matching.
