Tamil Nadu government is planning to execute infrastructure projects worth around Rs 50,000 crore over the next 10 years. These projects will be funded through private public partnership (PPP) model and will be developed through government funding.
Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII's) Chennai Version 3.0, coinciding with Madras Formation Day last Friday, R Sellamuthu, principal secretary - housing and urban department, Government of Tamil Nadu said that infrastructure projects include including metro rail, elevated express highways and connectivity roads.
G R K Reddy, chairman CII Chennai Zone, in his theme address said that Chennai Version 3.0 aspires to take up the challenge to eradicate illiteracy, unemployment and poverty in the city by 2025; to develop Chennai into a new metropolis which is peaceful and safe, eco-sensitive and modern, yet culturally conscious.
In his special address, Dinesh Kumar, director, Airport Authority of India, Chennai said that Chennai would have an world class international airport with four runways by 2025 with a capacity to handle 1000 flights daily besides 60 million passenger movements. He said better road infrastructure, which would help in improving the airport connectivity. He further said that smart card travel , bullet train connectivity, dedicated express highways would need to be planned to make Chennai a worldclass international airport.
