Trinamool-Congress alliance ahead of Left in West Bengal

The Trinamool Congress-Congress alliance surged ahead of the CPI-M-led Left Front in West Bengal, leading in 23 of the 36 Lok Sabha constituencies for which trends were available till 1030 hours.      

The Left Front was leading in 12 while BJP in one.     

Trinamool Congress was leading in 15 constituencies and Congress in eight.      

Prominent among those leading were External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee (Jangipur), Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee (Kolkata South) and BJP leader Jaswant Singh (Darjeeling).      

Mukherjee has established a lead of 18,000 votes after the second round of counting over his CPI-M rival Mriganka Bhatacharjee.     

Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee was leading by 44,105 over her nearest CPI-M rival Rabin Deb after the second round of counting in Kolkata South constituency.      

Jaswant Singh was leading by over 80,000 votes after third round of counting.      

Of the 12 seats the LF candidates were leading, the CPI-M was ahead in 8, RSP-1, CPI-2 and Forward Bloc in one.
