Sharpening his attack on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Monday accused the former of insulting Babasaheb Ambedkar by claiming credit for rights given to dalits and marginalised communities.

Speaking on the occasion of 123rd birth anniversary of the Father of Indian Constitution, Modi blamed to Congress of using name of Ambedkar for political gains.

“It is our Constitution that give us all the rights. But it is unfortunate that Congress’s ‘Shahzada’ (referring to Rahul Gandhi) is happy insulting Ambedkar every now and then. Why does ‘Shahzada’ keep saying Congress gave this or that laws (for the marginalised)? All those who make claims that they have given rights (to marginalised or dalits) are insulting Ambedkar,”  Modi said after paying tribute to Ambedkar in Gandhinagar.

He further said that those who do not know or understand the Constitution of India were trying to take its credit for ‘political’ gains.  “The country knows that Congress has insulted Ambedkar unimaginable times,” Modi added.

Modi also said that Ambedkar’s birth anniversary was like Diwali for the dalits and marginalised sections of society.
