Neeraj Swaroop on Tuesday took over as chief executive officer of Standard Chartered Bank, India region. He succeeds Christopher Low, who was moved to Seoul in 2004 as the chief integration officer for synthesising the bank's operations in South Korea with that of Korea First Bank. | |
| Swaroop was head of consumer banking at HDFC Bank for four years before joining Standard Chartered. He joined HDFC Bank in 1999, prior which he worked with Bank of America for about eight years. |

| Swaroop's appointment gives Jaspal Bindra-who oversaw the bank's operations from March 1, 2005-the room to focus on the bank's business in South Asia as the regional general manager. Bindra will also focus on the bank's interests in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. |
