Panel To Assess Sbi Manpower Status

State Bank of India (SBI) has appointed a one-man committee to study the manpower requirement and the present human resource situation at the largest commercial bank in the post voluntary retirement scheme scenario. Although the National Institute of Banking Management (NIBM) had made a study on the human resource scenario at the bank, it was not taken into consideration for further action, instead, B K Mehrotra was given the task of making a new study on the manpower situation.
An ex-SBI executive, Mehrotra is expected to submit its report in another month.
Although officials from the bank could not be contacted, sources said that NIBM in its study, submitted six months back said that there were 12,000 excess staff at the bank, while there was shortage of some 8,000 officers on the other hand. The NIBM report was referred to Mehrotra was given the task of coming up with a manpower policy for the bank.
