Global wealth intelligence and prospecting agency Wealth-X figures the Microsoft co-founder as the world’s richest self-made billionaire, with about $86 billion of wealth.
In its report of 25 self-made wealthiest people in the world, the agency puts Warren Buffett at the second position, with personal fortunes of $70.1 billion.
American entrepreneurs dominate the Wealth-X list, snapping up 14 of the 25 spots. The combined wealth of the 14 Americans on the list comes to $514.2 billion, about a quarter of India’s gross domestic product.
While the Wealth-X report has compiled the list on the basis of the individuals' personal weath, the more extensive Forbes list of the world's richest people considers net worth as a criterion for ranking the world's billionaires. Of the 25 richest self-made billionaires by the Wealth-X list, 12 figure among the top 25 Forbes billionaires, too. While Gates is the richest in both lists, Buffeet, who is second on the Wealth-X's list, is third on Forbes'.
Among those in top 25 on the Forbes list but not on the Wealth-X one are Koch Industries CEO Charles Koch and Executive Vice-President David Koch; Walmart's Christy, Jim, Alice and Robson Walton; L'oreal's Liliane Bettencourt; LVMH Chairman & CEO Bernard Arnault; Schaeffler Group's Georg Schaeffler; candy maker Mars' Jacqueline, Forrest and John Mars; and Thomson Reuters Chairman David Thomson.
We look at the top 25 who have featured in the list of the world's richest self-made billionaires (by personal fortunes) according to the Wealth-X report.
