Base metals rise on steady industrial demand

Led by nickel, copper, lead and zinc prices surged at the non-ferrous metal market here today on hectic buying from stockists supported by strong industrial demand.

Nickel spurted by Rs 15 per kg to Rs 1,355 from Wednesday's closing level of Rs 1,340. 

Copper cable scrap, copper wire bar and lead firmed up by Rs 4 per kg each to Rs 474, Rs 502 and Rs 128, respectively, as against Rs 470, Rs 498 and Rs 124 yesterday.

Copper scrap heavy and copper sheets cutting moved up by Rs 3 per kg each to Rs 463 and Rs 446 as compared to Rs 460 and Rs 443 previously.

Zinc and copper armiture edged up by Rs 2 per kg each to Rs 133 and Rs 452. Copper utensils scrap also inched up by a rupee per kg to Rs 428.
