The average daily turnover of leading commodity exchange Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) has increased to over Rs 19,000 crore on the back of metal and bullion trading.
According to figures available, the turnover of MCX rose to Rs 10.73 lakh crore in 2009 calendar year till March 15, compared to Rs 9 lakh crore in the year-ago period.
The average daily turnover of MCX has also been rising this year from nearly Rs 16,000 crore in January to Rs 19,216 crore in the first fortnight of March. The daily business was Rs 17,809 crore in February.
Interestingly, MCX has not been able to do much business on Saturday as it is a holiday in other countries. Traders on the MCX platform do business mainly in metal including gold and silver, and energy including crude oil taking cues from international market, experts said.
The average daily business in MCX on a Saturday is about Rs 1,000 crore.
