India is likely to rejoin the International Rubber Study Group (IRSG), a London-based inter-governmental organisation, industry officials said.
 
Rubber Board has submitted a proposal in this regard to the central government and a decision is likely soon, they said.The International Rubber Study Group is devoted to the global rubber industry.
 
The Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association, the apex body of Indian tyre makers, also favours India rejoining the Group.
 
The tyre manufacturers' association has also urged for India to rejoin the world body, said D Ravindran, secretary general of the Association.From the year 2000, India had ceased to be a member of the rubber body following difference of opinion.
 
Founded in 1944, International Rubber Study Group currently has 16 countries, besides the European Commission, as members.
