Sensex ends up 185pts

Sensex has ended (provisional) at 17,719 - up 185 points.

The Nifty ended at 5,316 - up 59 points.

Markets have spurted up suddenly in late noon trades. The Sensex is now at 17,645 - up 110 points. Nifty is at 5,291 - up 35 points.

Markets have been volatile in a narrow range after recovering from the day's low of 17,374.

BSE oil & gas, FMCG, PSU, auto and power indices have gained. However, IT and metal indices are still in red.

Reliance has pared some of its gains and is now up 1.2% at Rs 1,080. ITC has gained 1.6% to Rs 302.

Mahindra & Mahindra, BHEL, Maruti Suzuki and Hindustan Unilever have added nearly 1% each.

On the other hand, Wipro has shed 2% at Rs 382. Cipla has dropped 1.7% to Rs 334.

Bharti Airtel, hero Honda, Hindalco, TCS and Infosys are the other big losers.

Jindal Steel, Tata Steel, Sterlite, Jaiprakash Associates, DLF and Tata Power have dropped over 0.5% each.
