British boxer Amir Khan is reportedly set to stop 'killing himself' and start battering opponents having stepped up from light-welterweight to welterweight.

The former world champion will return to the ring to face American Luis Collazo on May 3 in Las Vegas in a make-or-break night given that he has not fought for a year since his points victory over Julio Diaz in Sheffield, which followed losses to Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson.

According to the Daily Express, the fight leads the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's first outing of the year against Marcos Maidana, who the Bolton boxer beat in 2010, and Khan said that he is planning to 'steal the show' as he feels much better at the 147 pound-limit, which is much different from the one that was 'killing himself' at 140 pounds.

Stating that he is too big for his previous weight, Khan said that he used to get over the weight limit before a fight, which is not good for a fighter, adding that it was very hard on him to get back into the ring after losing the extra weight.

Khan also said that his fellow boxers like Maidana and Paulie Malignaggi had moved up to welterweight before him, adding that he believes he would be at his best and come into the ring a lot smarter and happier than the past.

Khan could face the winner of Mayweather vs Maidana later this year if he beats Collazo, who was also Ricky Hatton's first opponent when he moved up to the welterweight division in 2006, the report added.
