The Congress leader P.L. Punia on Sunday hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for calling the Kisan Rally a flop show and said that the ruling party's remarks are an insult to the farming community.

Punia said that farmers from all over the country were present at the Ramlila Maidan.

"Farmers from all over the country were present. There was no place for people to sit inside. The Bharatiya Janata Party calling the rally a flop show is insulting the farmers present and the entire farming community," Punia said.

"What else can be expected of them? They are anti-farmers which is why they say this," he added.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi earlier today accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of being anti-farmer and said farmers and workers in the country are worried as they feel that the government has forgotten them.

Addressing the farmers' rally organised by the party at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital, Gandhi said the farmers strengthen the nation before industrialists as they feed the nation.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi also came down heavily on the government, saying relief announced by it for farmers affected by hailstorm and untimely rain is worthless.
