Army provides free medical treatment to two youths injured in Kashmir firing

An Indian Army officer on Thursday said that the army provided free medical treatment to two youths who were injured by security personnel firing in Jammu and Kashmir at its hospital.

Security personnel shot dead two youths and injured two others after they did not stop at check points in Budgam district on Monday.

Army had received information on movement of militants in the area after which they set up three checking points. The youths did not stop at any point, which led soldiers to open fire.

The injured were immediately admitted to army hospital in Srinagar for better treatment and their condition is stable and improving.

"I am feeling better. The treatment is also good here. My parents also come here to meet me. Everything is alright," said Mohammed Shakir who is one of the injured.

Colonel Brajesh Pandey of the Indian Army said the family members of the injured have been accommodated in the hospital premises and they would be discharged within a week.

"Soon after the incident, their families were informed and they were brought here. Since then on an average five to seven people from their family, they have been here. They have been accommodated here. They are being facilitated to be close to their patient. In the case of one patient, it may be just about a couple of days and in the case of second patient it may take a week or a little more than a week," said Pandey.

The government has ordered inquiry into the incident.
