Aussie batters look lost against our spinners, says Mathews

After thrashing Australia by massive 229 runs in the second Test to clinch their maiden Warne-Muralitharan Trophy, Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews has admitted that the tourists appear lost against the home side's deadly spin brigade.

Australia, which is currently placed at the top of the ICC Test rankings, have till now lost 36 of their 40 wickets in the series to spinners Rangana Herath, Lakshan Sandakan, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dilruwan Perera.

"They look a bit lost when it comes to our spinners," Mathews was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

The Sri Lankan skipper admitted that it is never easy to face good quality spin on a turner like that of Galle Stadium.

"We have good quality spinners. They know exactly how to bowl on these kinds of wickets," he said.

"Sometimes when we go to overseas conditions we struggle as well. They have struggled in the last two games," he added.

The 29-year-old, however, said his side would not be complacent as they are not writing off the visitors and want a clean sweep in the three-match series with the dead rubber to start from August 13 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground.

Meanwhile, Australian skipper Steve Smith has indicated that he might be picking specialist batsmen for the spinning conditions.

"Yeah it certainly needs to be looked at. If there are guys that can play spin well in these conditions then it's certainly got to be a chance," he said.

"It's been too long now, so whatever we're doing it's not working. So yeah, there might be a need for some changes," he added.
