Australian Consulate General congratulates Woolmark Prize winners

The Australian Consul General in Mumbai, Mark Pierce, has congratulated Rahul Mishra, winner of the 2014 Woolmark Prize and the India and Middle East finalists for the 2014/15 Woolmark Prize at a celebratory dinner to mark the event.

Woolmark is a leading Australian fashion brand and a subsidiary of a company owned by 27,000 Australian wool growers. Rahul Mishra beat a pool of 48 designers from 20 countries with a collection of hand-embroidered cocktail dresses made from Merino wool to win the AUD$100,000 prize.

"The quality, delicacy and ingenuity of the garments being judged was exceptional. The design talent in the region is outstanding and what they are doing with wool is inspiring. I wish the nominees all the best with their future collections and am very much looking forward to seeing the capsule collection of Bird on a Wire from Lebanon and The Emperor 1688 from UAE in eight months' time", said Pierce.

"Woolmark is a most respected apparel brand. I commend Woolmark for continuing with the coveted Woolmark Prize which gives young designers the opportunity to showcase their talent in some of the most well-known retailers in the world', added Pierce.

Pierce also congratulated Woolmark on extending the Prize this year to include a menswear award.
