Spanish giants Barcelona has reportedly paid 11.2 million pounds to their country's authorities after they were accused of committing tax fraud over the signing of Brazilian starlet Neymar.

Barcelona had paid 48.6 million pounds for the former Santos striker in the summer, with his parents receiving 34 million pounds of the fee, although it is alleged that if other contracts are taken into account, the actual cost of the player was far greater.

However, the BBC reports that the club has continued to insist that they have not committed any offence and a statement said that they made the payment to the tax authorities to cover 'eventual interpretations that could be given to the contracts drawn up in the operation to sign Neymar'.

The report mentioned that last month, Sandro Rosell resigned as Barcelona president following accusations he misappropriated money, although he has denied any wrongdoing.

It is however, not yet confirmed whether the case will be dropped after Barcelona's payment.

Neymar has scored seven goals in 18 league appearances for Barcelona this season, as well as netting three in seven Champions League matches, the report added.
