After an extensive squabble over seat-sharing in the forthcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena seem to have moved closer to resolving the issue, with the latter proposing to keep 150 seats to itself, 130 seats to the BJP while keeping seven for others.
"Both parties are of the view that our alliance should stay. A meeting will be held along with our other allies and the new proposal will be discussed. The BJP and the Shiv Sena will meet again in the evening to take the final decision," said BJP leader Vinod Tawde.
Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party had offered to contest in 130 Assembly seats in the upcoming Maharashtra elections to the Shiv Sena's 158, as opposed to the previous offer of contesting 135 seats.
Earlier today, party in-charge of Maharashtra, Rajiv Pratap Rudy had said that it was a very liberal proposal and hoped the Shiv Sena would consider it favourably.
The Shiv Sena and the BJP have been involved in a tug of war over the sharing of seats for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
September 27 is the deadline for filing of nominations for the Maharashtra Assembly polls, scheduled to be held on October 15. There are 288 seats in the state.
