Former England player Geoffrey Boycott has described Australia's performance on day two of the third Ashes Test in Edgbaston as being as pathetic as it was in their first innings.

He further said Australia's bowlers left him amazed by how badly they bowled, the BBC reported.

He considered the Australian players as novices and said that it was an embarrassing day for them.

Boycott praised England bowler Steven Finn for his good bowling.

Earlier in the day, Australia stood at 168-7, leading by 23 runs, with Peter Nevill (37) and Mitchell Starc(7) on the crease .

England held a respectable 145-run first-innings lead after being bowled for 281. Joe Root (63), Ian Bell (53) and Moeen Ali (59) scored their respective half-tons to give the hosts a substantial lead.
