The Congress party on Sunday said people have been left with no choice but to pressurize their elected representatives who take a U-turn after making tall promises in their election campaigns.

"The people of this country are tired of promises. People-elected representatives make tall claims before elections but after winning the elections, they take a U-turn whether it be the Central Government which had made tall promises as far as women atrocities are concerned, as far as inflation is concerned, tolerance for corruption is concerned," Congress leader Shobha Oza told ANI here.

"So the people in democracy are left with no other way out but to pressurise the elected representatives to fulfill their promises," she added.

Distraught over frequent power cuts in their area, frustrated residents of Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli village roped Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Babban Singh Chauhan and a local councillor, and held them hostage for nearly two hours.

The incident happened in Alinagar when the MLA and the Councillor came to greet the people on the occasion of Eid.

The police reached the spot as soon as they got the information.

After getting assurance of proper electricity supply, the locals freed them.
