The Congress on Tuesday accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of 'murdering' the spirit of the Right to Fair Compensation by amending the existing bill.
"After coming to power, the BJP government murdered the soul and spirit of the Right to Fair Compensation by bringing in amendments. In a completely hurried action, the government has introduced land acquisition in shape of a bill in Lok Sabha," Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala told the media.
"Once again the BJP is playing a sinister political game with farmers of India. We call upon the government to withdraw the Land Acquisition ordinance," he added.
Earlier in the day, the opposition staged a walk-out in the Lok Sabha, protesting against the introduction of the Land Acquisition Bill in the House by Union Minister for Rural Development Chaudhary Birender Singh.
