Congress leaders fire salvos at BJP over CAG report related to Gujarat Government

Congress leader Manish Tewari today said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) must follow the same yardsticks which it had followed on other CAG reports when the Congress was in power.

He was referring to the Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) report that was tabled in the Gujarat State Assembly on Friday, which charged the Government of Gujarat of unduly favouring corporate giants, including Reliance Petroleum and the Adani Group when Narendra Modi was chief minister.

Taking strong exception to the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) conduct on previous CAG reports, Tewari said that it was "incumbent" on the BJP to respond to the latest CAG report.

"The BJP had made a song and dance about the CAG report. If you recall, the entire parliament session of November 2010 was wiped out on the CAG report. So therefore it becomes incumbent that the government responds to the CAG report, because the report is of that period when the current Prime Minister was the then Chief Minister of Gujarat. So it's incumbent that they follow the same yardsticks which they followed on other CAG reports," Tewari told ANI.

He further stated that the BJP had not allowed the parliament to function and created a poisonous atmosphere across the length and breadth of the country when it was not in power.

Another Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi also said, "The CAG has brought out what is well known that the Gujarat Government favoured a corporate. Chickens have come home to roost for BJP.
